This workshop will enable educators to understand the importance of children’s holistic development through implementation of nature pedagogy.

Participants should be able to apply the received information and practical exercises of Nature Pedagogy and connect to the National Curriculum Framework Aistear or Primary School Curriculum. Participants will be able to recognise links between theory and practice, philosophies, pedagogies, research and understand the effectiveness of Nature Pedagogy.

Depending on setting/environment, risk-benefit analysis examples will provide insight into the perceived barriers of connecting children with nature. Through practical experiences of Nature craft, developing planning and observation documents educators will be able to understand seamless and easy ways of including nature into the day to day running of their individual ECCE.

There will be an opportunity to discuss and exchange participants' interests, challenges, understanding and further plans in engaging more actively with nature pedagogy in ECCE.

Course Tutor

Michaela Omojola originally studied Children and Youth Education in Germany with the college for Social Pedagogy Marienheim in Lindau. She came to Ireland and while undertaking her B.A. Early Childhood Teaching and Learning at Maynooth University (NUIM), she explored the different practice of Early Years Education between Germany and Ireland. Her continuing interest in the importance of cooperating natural resources and environment into children’s lives has led her to the path of undertaking her M.Ed. at Maynooth University (NUIM) with the focus on Forest School Education Development in the Republic of Ireland. This research supports her role as an Outdoor Consultant to Early Years practitioners who are in the process of implementing nature pedagogy into their daily practice.
